Why Use the Phrase ‘Professional Christian Life Coaching’?
First, let’s just take the words in that phrase individually. Then, we’ll see how they all fit powerfully together.
Life...
The root word of the phrase is Life. It is about your life; your passions, your mission, your purpose, your relationships, your roles, your identity, your agenda, your journey, your growth, your goals, your ideas, your personality, your ideals, your challenges, your habits, your abilities, your aptitudes, your skills, etc. It is about your life in a way that is significant and meaningful to you.
Discover and refine your understanding of exactly what is meaningful to you.
You set the pace and depth of change desired. Those are always within your control.
Your life is likely to take on a powerful new significance, enabling you to achieve more.
Come to the realization of what success means to you, and then go for it with enthusiasm.
Challenges in your life will lose power to hinder your spiritual growth.
In short, it is about living your life to the full according to your definition of full.
Coaching...
The next word in the phrase is Coaching, a verb that simply means what a coach does.
So, what does a coach do? In general, a coach guides you to become better at something you deeply desire, even if you don’t fully know what that is yet.
Even your best friends may have the best of intentions. But, a coach is trained to stay intently focused on two main subjects: your life, and your agenda. In fact, your friends would probably appreciate you not using them as coaches, although they can be of great help for encouragement, accountability, or short term goals.
You set the agenda for a successful coaching relationship that is about your life and your idea of success.
The Coach will help you explore vast possibilities you may have never considered before.
The Coach help you focus on the goals you desire most, and to articulate them so you can own them.
The Coach will empower you by actively listening and believing in you, until you can believe in yourself.
In context, coaching is about getting the best guidance for exploring your options until the unshakable ones rise to the top. It is about discovering the deeply buried treasures in your own heart that make your life, and the lives you touch, even more precious. It is about becoming intimately familiar with your own sources of motivation and being able to randomly tap into them. It is about being your own inspiration to help you overcome significant challenges, setbacks, and old habits, and instead, achieve more than you have imagined possible.
Christian...
This word could really be either placed first or last in the phrase depending on your personal spiritual perspective. The word ‘Christian’ means many things to many people. To some, it is critical enough that nothing meaningful happens without it. To others, they could take it or leave it.
There is also everything in between and some outliers as well. The reason I defined the word Life in this phrase first is because the definition of Christianity is yours, as well as its importance to your agenda.
Your understanding of what it means to be Christian is exactly that: your understanding.
Your experience as a Christian, whether or not investigated, beginner, or mature, is also yours.
You are free to pursue your Christian life as you please. I am not here to judge you.
This is not about the coach telling you how to be a Christian, or even what it means.
To some, the Christian label has even become offensive. Not because of who Christ says He is, or what Scripture says He did. But, because of people who abuse the label. Unfortunately, they wear it as a religious badge of honor that somehow gives them right to oppress and judge others.
If you feel any resemblance to this latter group, and if you have not heard this yet today, let me be the first to apologize on behalf of Christ for this inexcusable behavior, and assure you that, truly, God did so love the world that He gave His only Son, so that you may have life and have it abundantly (John 3:16, 10:10).
Life Coaching...
Life Coaching assumes you are the expert of your life, and you would benefit from having someone you can know, like, and trust, draw that expertise out of you, for inspection, examination, exploration, and reshaping as you see fit. You already have the intuition and wisdom inside you to significantly advance your life in the direction of successfully achieving clearer, more meaningful goals. In other words, the Coach is not the expert of your life, you are. You set the agenda, the coach helps sharpen the focus.
You are responsible for choices in your life; a life coach helps with your choices about life.
Greater awareness leads to better choices; a life coach help you explore and gain awareness.
Clarity is essential for self-motivation; a life coach helps you clearly understand what’s important to you.
Knowing what’s important to you is empowering; a life coach helps you transform knowledge to power.
The successful Life Coaching relationship is based on a foundation of mutual trust and proper motivation. It follows that it takes time for this relationship to truly become synergetic. Your motivation for starting a coaching process might be little more than faith there is a future benefit to experience that outweighs the doubt you experience now.
Christian Life Coaching...
Christian Life Coaching has two aspects to it because there are two people involved: you and the coach. As a Christian, I inwardly maintain a prayerful stance throughout our engagement as I seek God’s wisdom to support your agenda.
If you are a Christian, then you may seek God’s will for your life, as well as the courage and wisdom for clarifying and carrying out your calling. But, this is neither a prerequisite nor a requirement.
Professional Christian Life Coaching...
Professional Christian Life Coaching combines the absolute best of each individual word –Professional, Christian, Life, Coaching– and focuses them on significantly benefiting you.
Professional Christian Life Coaching is expressly intentional. At times you may experience what’s called an “Ah! Ha!” moment where a profound personal discovery resonates with your whole being. Such a moment can seem surprising and delightful. You will learn to take more delight in yourself, just as God delights in you. That's when doors you didn't know existed start to fly open. The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by his love; He will exult over you with loud singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)
